What the ART number does and doesn't tell you
A valid ART number confirms the season and the type, not where the piece came from. A fake code is as easy to copy as a label.
Stone Island and C.P. Company both also run Certilogo, a separate system with its own code on a different tag. Certilogo checks that code against their own product records and returns a direct verdict: genuine or fake. For C.P. Company this covers pieces from SS19 onward, older pieces don't carry a Certilogo code.

Where to find the ART number
- Look at the wash label stitched into the inside left seam.
- Find the line between the size and the fabric composition. That's the ART number.
- On pieces from the 80s and early 90s, check a separate paper tag too. The code wasn't always on the wash label itself.
A missing or cut-out wash label doesn't automatically mean it's fake. It does make the piece harder to date, though.
